I would encourage you to give up on your store bought room sprays. There are very few that aren’t what amounts to chemical soup that no one should breathe. (And if you’ve ever been allergic to synthetic smells or if you have asthma, you’ll know what I mean! It is no fun not to be able to breathe.) Besides that, we don’t need to add more toxicity to our environment, there is too much already. And being indoors so much in the winter, we need to pay attention to the quality of the air we are breathing.
If you haven’t already, try essential oils to make wonderful smelling room sprays. Or pillow sprays, or closet sprays or drawer sprays. Or linen closet sprays! Make sure your oils are real, not synthetic fragrances packaged to look like essential oils. This picture I took shows DoTerra oils, but there are several other companies I have tried that are very nice. Young Living is one, and Eden’s Garden is another. Eden’s Garden is a direct sales company, so you can order their oils online and get a good price and good quality.
Yesterday I quickly dropped 2-3 drops of lime oil and 2-3 drops sweet orange oil into a glass spray bottle that I had filled with water.
Then I walked around the house shaking the bottle and spraying that wonderful scent all over!
Another one of my favorite room spray combinations is lavender and ylang ylang oils. Soooo nice.
I love the smells of summer that I can get in the dead of winter using essential oils!
If you’ve been using oils, what are your favorite scents? Which ones do you like to combine?
I hope you are having a great week and staying warm…
Be well!
I could not agree more! Not only are the conventional air fresheners challenging for many people, I think they make it more likely to catch whatever cold is going around. On the other hand, essential oils will enhance the immune system which is really helpful especially in the winter. I have found that for enhanced indoor air quality, having some house plants helps a lot. They filter the air quietly and add positive energy to the home (but they may need to be kept out of kids reach and they do like to be watered regularly – I have decided it’s worth it though for the benefits – ha ha)
Oh I’m glad you mentioned house plants Layna! I agree with the air quality benefits and I love tending them. I was walking the dog yesterday, and as I approached the house coming home, I saw the geraniums in the window inside and felt welcomed home. Love you!
