I got this question today and thought maybe a little brainstorming and sharing would be timely:
“Can you think of some fun snacks that are healthy for my little kids?”
Yes!
Cucumbers with Adam’s peanut butter. If you haven’t tried this combination, you are going to be in for a treat! I like to cut the cucumber into coins and have a small bowl of peanut butter for dipping. You could of course use almond or cashew butter!
Apples with dip. No, not the sugary dip, just 8 ounces of cream cheese, 2 Tbs blackstrap molasses, 2 Tbs honey and 1 tsp vanilla. Mix that up and dip apples in it. Sooo, yummy and the blackstrap is a good source of iron and other minerals.
Kale chips. Wash and tear your kale into bite sized pieces, spread on a cookie sheet, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with Real salt or Real season salt and or granulated garlic. Crispy, crunchy and delicious! (Recipe on recipes page!)
Frozen grapes (or any other fruit). Wash well and freeze in a zip lock bag. Frozen grapes are such a perfect size and sweetness. Little people love them!
Frozen peas in a little cup. My kids loved these!
Fruit kabobs. Cut up fresh pineapple, melons, berries, bananas, mandarin oranges, kiwi, or whatever your family likes and slide them onto sticks to make colorful, fun snacks.
Veggie kabobs. Peppers, pineapple, tomato, avocado, olives, cheese squares (real cheese, not American or the like), zucchini, pickles, and whatever else you can think of on a stick!
Berry granola parfait. Layer your homemade granola, berries, and Greek yogurt in a clear cup. So pretty and fun to eat.
Popcorn with honey and butter and salt drizzled over it. Mmmm. Or savory popcorn with butter and fresh or dried herbs.
Sandwiches cut into shapes. Egg or chicken salad or cucumber and cream cheese or nitrate free meats and cheeses. Cookie cutters are fun…
Deviled eggs! Boil eggs, peel and cut in half. Put yolks in a bowl and smash. Add mayo, mustard (curry or wasabi if you’re wild) and spoon mixture back into egg white halves. Sprinkle with paprika, or better yet, smoked paprika! These won’t last long.
I send you my love and best wishes for a wonderful weekend! Breathe deeply, slow down and enjoy all of these fun foods with your kids. If you’re in rain like we are, remember; indoor picnics are created with a simple blanket spread in the middle of the floor!
