“Faith is the strength by which a shattered world shall emerge into the light.” Helen Keller

I was visiting with a client recently about the stop sign we’re learning to envision when we feel anything but peaceful.

In Real Love, Dr. Greg Baer explains exactly what to do when we sense that we are becoming irritated, angry, frustrated, feeling offended or some other negative emotion or “triggered.”

He says, we need to stop! Then ask three questions, (which I’ll paraphrase):

1 What am I doing? Most likely, the answer will be something like, feeling like a victim, living in the past, ruminating about something or feeling failed.

2 What do I want? Well, to feel peace! To feel loved and to be loving! To be an agent, free to choose my responses to life.

3 What can I do right now (to get closer to peace)? I can visit with a wise woman or a wise man, someone who knows me and lovingly tells me the truth, or I can take a walk or do something I enjoy that will help me shift my mind back toward my sane self!

Most importantly, it takes faith to commit to this or any other exercise that will challenge us in moments when we’re tempted not to care or have any hope that things will ever change!

The truth is, while we can’t change other people and or some of our circumstances, we can change.

We can have greater peace and joy!

And many of us have been taught very well that “the joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives, and everything to do with the focus of our lives.” https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2016/10/joy-and-spiritual-survival?lang=eng

Practice, practice, practice. That’s what it’s about!

Love and peace to you today,
