There’s so much of an entitlement attitude hanging around isn’t there?
We hear it in every news cast and see it on every billboard.
It’s the stuff that marketing these days is made of. {“You deserve it all…right now!”}
We witness this form of pride in law suits, family quarrels and divorce courts. And oh, it’s loud and clear in the social media that creates a comparison mindset that flashes around us day and night, and leads to anything but feeling and being at peace!
I love the view of Paul, who taught that whether we are in need or whether we are experiencing abundance, we can be grateful and happy.
Yes, that idea flies in the face of the modern philosophy that no want or suffering is needed for growth. That abundance should be the only state we experience and the greatest goal in life! And, that if we are experiencing great challenge, somehow we have failed or are unworthy. No!
What I have learned from suffering I wouldn’t trade for a lifetime of smooth sailing. Granted, though pain is a master teacher, misery isn’t necessary for growth and can inhibit our progress!
So if we are in need today, or if we are on cloud nine, we can undo the spell of entitlement thinking {even just the small amount that brings sadness and misery and contention} by giving gratitude to God for the blessing of being here, and for the billions of beauties and bounties that are ours for the taking, if and when we learn to see them!
And, mostly, for the incalculable blessing of family. Because, while we can give each other the greatest challenges, we also give each other the greatest opportunity: to be loved while we are learning.
I send you my love today!
Be happy, and know that your prayers are heard.
